Introduction and Objective > Forms of Communication > Boundaries and Non-Verbal Communication
Boundaries are an important part of every relationship. Healthy relationships have boundaries that are clear to both parties and set limits on what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. However, for a boundary to work, it must be communicated, understood, and followed.
Boundaries can be very simple, such as not calling a friend on the telephone after 9:00 p.m. But they can also be more complex. It is probably expected that you give hugs to your family members as a way to show affection. However, it would not be okay for you to hug a stranger on the street or someone you have just met.
