How Can You Prevent Cyberbullying?

Now that you know how to identify cyberbullying, how can it be prevented? There are many ways that everyone can help to prevent cyberbullying.

  • Education - Being able to identify cyberbullying is the first step. Now that you are educated, spread the word. Talk with your parents, friends, teachers, family, and anyone else and help them understand what cyberbullying is and how to prevent it.
  • Think before you post - Many people who are cyberbullies may not realize what they are posting online is hurtful. Before you text, email, or post anything online, think about how you would feel if someone said it about you. Would you still post it? Also, be careful about what you post online. Don’t post anything personal or any identifiable information that could be used to cyberbully you.
  • Speak up - When you see cyberbullying, or if you are a victim, tell a parent, teacher, guidance counselor, or other trusted adult. Don’t allow your friends or classmates to engage in cyberbullying, either. Let them know you don’t agree with cyberbullying.
