Peer Pressure vs. Coercion

Introduction and Objective

Have you ever been in a situation where your friends encouraged you to do something that you didn’t want to do? Maybe they encouraged you to steal a piece of candy from the store or make fun of someone. It can be hard to ignore your friends and make good decisions, especially when your friends make you feel bad or scared. It’s important to understand what peer pressure and coercion are and learn how to deal with them the right way.

Today's lesson objective is: Students will compare and contrast the terms coercion and peer pressure and identify instances when peer pressure becomes coercion.
