Making friends is an important part of growing up. As we become close to others and start to learn more about our friends, sometimes we find out that they aren’t who we thought they were. Standing up to peer pressure and coercion may seem hard, but it’s the right thing to do. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to remove yourself from people that are negative influences on you. Surround yourself with people that share your beliefs, and encourage each other to make positive decisions.
It is important to understand the characteristics of peer pressure and coercion. As you observe the interactions around you, ask yourself the following questions:
