Safety Playbook for Individual Development
and Engagement of Responsible Students
Introduction and Objective >
We are constantly faced with a variety of things that make us question who we are or what we should look like. Have you ever stopped to think about how you feel about the way you look or what you are supposed to look like? Who teaches you how you should look? Do these influences care about you as a person? How do you feel about what they taught you? Your appearance is influenced in many ways by a lot of people. While most influences, such as your family and friends, can provide you with confidence in who you are and what you look like, some of these influences can give you an unreasonable expectation of what you should look like and can cause you to make poor lifestyle choices. Unfortunately, these influences can have a negative impact on your decision-making and the development of your self-esteem.
Today’s lesson objective is: Students will examine the role of media in developing self-esteem and explain how media can influence choices that we make.
