Preventing Abusive Relationships: Part 3

Introduction and Objective

We have spent a lot of time discussing dangerous situations, defining sexual assault, and discussing the statistics of sexual assault and abusive relationships. After learning about these, it is normal to feel frightened. It is also normal to feel that the world is an unsafe place. However, the point of these lessons is to give you an accurate view of the world and to better prepare you to navigate the real dangers of the world. Today, we will learn about how to assess a dangerous situation, as well as give you tips on how you can avoid these situations and live a safe, healthy life.

Today’s lesson objective is: Students will determine situations that may put them in danger of sexual abuse, harassment, or violence, and discuss the best ways to avoid those situations.

Sexual Assault and Abuse affects hundreds of thousands of Americans each year.  It is up to us to take an active role in providing age-appropriate educational information to our students.

Although there is no way to prevent assault or abuse from happening, the strategies in these lessons can help to minimize a child's risk and show them where to get help if needed.
